As I predicted, last week's new releases fail to get into the top 5, although Sims 3 expansion pack, Ambitions, did get to a respectable 6^th position. Elsewhere, things are pretty much identical to last week's chart apart from a switch between 2010 Fifa World Cup and UFC 2010. Red Dead Redemption continues to do really well in top spot, I'm so pleased that it continues to do strong sales figures week on week since it is one of the year's strongest titles thus far.

Next week sees Green Day: Rock Band released as well as Mario's latest adventure in Super Mario Galaxy 2, which I expect to gain top spot, not halted by Galaxy's relatively poor sales figures two years ago. The IP is now much stronger, and the new title has been picking up exceptional scores, including a 10/10 from Edge magazine! Sadly, it's not a game I'm going to be picking up after my Wii is long gone.

The only new entry to enter the top 5 this week is THQ brawler UFC Undisputed: 2010 which has suceeded again in delivering extremely good sales figures in its opening week. Elsewhere, the release of Blur failed to get nearly the amount of sales that I was expecting and is way down the chart in 14^th, pipped only by Alpha Protocol in 13^th. Split/Second: Velocity, meanwhile, slips from the top five as Red Dead Redemption hangs on to the top position for the second week running in a bountiful array of “sold out” news stories littering the Internet.

Next week's release schedule which sees expansion to The Sims 3, Ambitions and Naughty Bear are less than likely to trouble the top 5 come a week.

Red Dead Redemption (PS3, Xbox 360)

It was to be expected and no question it's worthy of the number one spot, Red Dead Redemption has jumped straight to the top of the chart after its release last Friday. Reports indicated it was estimated to sell over 2 million units. The only other new entry to enter the chart is Black Rock Studios' Split/Second: Velocity which can only grab fifth highest selling game of the week. Wii Fit Plus re-enters the chart once again and refuses to let its sales drop-off.

Expect to see a good showing from UFC Undisputed: 2010 and Blur in next week's chart. Blur has been picking up some really positive review scores and may overtake Split/Second in a battle of the competitive racers. The World Cup is also nearly here, so I'm going to say that 2010 Fifa World Cup will regain its top position next week.

2010 Fifa World Cup (PS3, Xbox 360, PSP, Wii)

As I predicted, the new releases fail to knock the ever popular 2010 Fifa World Cup off the top spot as the World Cup draw ever nearer. Alan Wake has been greeted with strong sales figures and moves straight into the chart in second position. It seems the 5 year long wait has had no effect on levels of excitement. Elsewhere, Capcom's Lost Planet 2, which I have reviewed, is another new entry in third whilst EA's Skate 3 enters the chart in fifth position.

Next week sees a spectacular line-up of new games; Red Dead Redemption, ModNation Racers, Split/Second, Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle. I'd be surprised if Red Dead Redemption didn't garner top spot for next week's chart whilst the two racers should also put up for good sales. I expect Just Dance to finally leave the chart next week.

As expected, the new release of Sin and Punishment 2 has failed to penetrate the charts this week, with 2010 Fifa World Cup continuing to pull its weight on the top spot for the second week running. Splinter Cell: Conviction, Super Street Fighter IV and Episodes from Liberty City have all fallen short of the top 5 with the re-entry of the two big shooters Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

It's a great week for new releases and it'll be interesting to see which holds up against its competitors in the charts. With Lost Planet 2 out on Tuesday- a two day advantage is awarded over Alan Wake, Skate 3 and 3D Dot Game Heroes. I'd love to see a strong showing for Remedy Entertainment's Alan Wake which has been years coming although I expect Fifa to continue its strong sales showing in the run up to the World Cup and retain its top position.

Sam Fisher relinquishes his grasp from number 1 right down to the lower depths of the fourth spot. The sure fire hit combination of the Fifa franchise and the World Cup license results in the highest seller of the week, 2010 Fifa World Cup. Super Street Fighter IV also performs extremely well considering the huge success of the original game. Fans must be craving the anticipation of the further 10 fighters to add to the roster, and with new balancing tweaks, it's also a great package for those who have yet to pick it up. There is little change elsewhere in the chart, although Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii fails to get into the top 5 in its second week of release. Its unsurprising considering the limited appeal of the series on UK shores.

The new release of Sin and Punishment: Successor to the Skies is unlikely to be seen in next week's chart. The franchise is, in my opinion, much to niche for sales to rival the current holder's of the top 5 places.

Sam Fisher hangs on to the top spot of the chart for the second week running and with a release due on PC this Friday, there's all chance it'll be sitting up there once again come next week. Monster Hunter Tri for the Wii was the only new entry into the chart, a respectable 5th position for the series that often struggles at UK retail- take a look at my preview. Fantastic shooter Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is knocked from the chart after its hugely successful haul so far.

Next week sees some high profile releases such as God of War Collection, 2010 Fifa World Cup, Iron Man 2 and Super Street Fighter IV. Take a look at my 'Out this Week' feature to get more information on these. It'll be interesting to see whether any of these games can knock Fisher from number 1. My money's on Fifa!

Out this Week! 30th April 2010

A cash-in or an important update? Of course, it's most probably the former, but you'd be hard pressed to find a Fifa fan who isn't excited about the latest in the series, 2010 Fifa World Cup. The game features a roster of 199 playable nations, all questing for ultimate glory on the world stage, whilst a new penalty shoot-out system is also added to make those nail-biting finishes all the more thrilling. As the officially licensed game of the World Cup, all 10 South African stadia are re-created in exacting detail. Come on England! [Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP]

Not played God of War yet but eager to play the third in the trilogy? The God of War: Collection can fill in the blanks of Kratos's bid for revenge- a re-release of the first two God of War games, both up-scaled to glorious 720p high definition and with added trophy support- all on one Blu Ray disc! [PS3]

Arriving just after a year since it was first released. Capcom's hugely popular 2D fighter Super Street Fighter IV is out this week. The release boosts the character roster up 10 to a total of 35 and adds 6 new stages. Characters have also been re-balanced and tuned whilst each fighter also receives a new 'Ultra' attack. The online mode has also been vastly improved from the original release, with added modes ('Tag match', 'Tournament') and the ability to view replays from the top matches via 'Street Fighter TV'. Definitely worth another punt on for fans of the original and newcomer's alike. [Xbox 360, PS3]

Iron Man 2 rounds off the look at this week's releases. With a storyline written entirely for the game by comic book author Matt Fraction, the game features destructible environments, hand-to-hand combat, flying mechanics and huge bosses, as well as more inspiration taken from the comic book universe. Players can play as either 'Iron Man' or 'War Machine'. Interested? No, me neither. Movie tie-ins are notoriously under-whelming, especially when the game is released at the same time as the cinematic release. [Xbox 360, PS3, Wii, PSP, DS]
